Mary McDonnell

 

Mary Eileen McDonnell, born April 28, 1952 was an American actress who has appeared on the stage, on television and in film. She was awarded Academy Award nominations for her roles in Stands With A Fist in Dances with Wolves and May-Alice Culhane in Passion Fish. McDonnell is famous for her performance as President Laura Roslin in Battlestar Galactica and as First Lady Marilyn Whitmore in Independence Day as well as Rose in Donnie Darko. McDonnell was a character in Captain Sharon Raydor on seasons 5-7 of TNT's television series The Closer. She also appeared on Major Crimes, the spin-off series of TNT's network, as Commander Sharon Raydor.
